Welcome to the Lacuna website. Lacuna isn't a new word, but it is new to most of us. The word Lacuna means gap or lake and is used to describe the space in a manuscript where the writing is missing. Prayer has been described as a creative Lacuna. It's the empty moment waiting to be filled with the breath of the Holy Spirit. Lacuna is a space in which we can listen attentively for the call of God.
Since 2001, the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania has committed resources to gathering a group of artists to promote a 'call to the church' (download). The result is an invitation to intentionally enter into a period of Lacuna. The group has produced a Resource Kit which aims to help members of the church to find time and space to seek and meet God. Order your kit here.
The people of the Victorian and Tasmanian Synod have been invited to take up Lacuna in 2003. The Lacuna period could last from three to twelve months, or even become a permanent part of congregational life. This kit is full of suggestions for making Lacuna a part of the life of congregations, church councils, agencies, small groups, households and individuals.
It is here, at this website that you will find more background information, the latest new ideas and resources to add into the kit and a forum for you to share your own creative response to Lacuna.
